WHAT IS A ROOF CURB?

A raised frame to provide a surface for mounting mechanical units, skylights, etc on a roof.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A CURB MOUNTED SKYLIGHT AND A SELF-FLASHING SKYLIGHT?

A curb-mounted skylight is designed to mount on top of an existing flashed roof curb. Consider the skylight curb to be like a shoebox and the curb-mounted skylight is the shoebox lid.  When ordering a curb-mounted skylight, the measurements that we need are the outside curb dimension. A self-flashing skylight is a skylight that comes with a built in roof curb. The curb is a 4” tall aluminum extrusion that is integrated with the skylight frame. WHAT ARE THE OUTSIDE CURB DIMENSIONS?

The outside curb dimensions are measured to the outside edge of the roof curb as described above. These dimensions are the exact outer-most edges of a pre-existing roof curb, do not add any clearance, we will automatically include an industry standard clearance.

WHAT COLORS DO YOUR SKYLIGHTS COME IN?

The standard aluminum finish is dark bronze or clear anodized. Full arrays of colors utilizing the latest powder coating techniques, enamel or KYNAR are available. The exterior may also be clad with copper or other metals to match the surrounding roof or flashing materials.

WHAT IS A BREATHER TUBE (CAPILLARY TUBE)?

A breather tube is a small hollow tube found in insulated glass units. The function of a breather tube is to allow air pressure to stabilize during transportation of skylights and windows. Because these tubes are hollow they must be crimped (closed) after or just before installation to keep moisture from forming between the panes of glass. If these breather tubes are not closed properly it will void the glass manufacturer’s warranty. Please click here to see the suggested way of closing these tubes.
